Week 1- March 1st

Will the grouping of gifted students within one room inhibit the learning of others within the classroom?

  1. I have found that my kinders are not independent enough to work alone and quietly if they test out or have another job. They are still considered beginner readers and still need guidance, so they do interfere by interrupting and asking questions.

  2. My gifted students work great together on projects and enjoy creating and building on their own learning. The other children love to work along side of them and listen to their ideas and insights.

  3. If groups are not able to function without a lot of direct teacher supervision, modifications of the enrichment/accelerated activity might be considered. It is always a challenge to find activities that engage the student, yet have a clear enough format so that the student can know what is expected of him or her.

Gifted or otherwise, if they have not compacted out of the concept at hand then they are with the rest of the class and are subject to the same behavior expectations as everyone else.
