I have a gifted cluster classroom for 2nd graders. It is one of three 2nd grade classrooms in Eagle Ridge. When we place the children in the spring for the coming year, we look at gifted students being placed in the same classroom with other students that have gifted tendencies. There are NO low low students in this classroom such as resource. Those students are placed in the other two classrooms.
ReplyDeleteI am a gifted teacher in kindergarten and we FLEX group throughout the year. Once we test our gifted students then the teachers are responsible to come to me for the resources needed or if there are enough then we small group them. At the end of the year then we place according to the gifted placement grouping. My question is....does anybody have a better cluster grouping in Kindergarten? Would love your thoughts and ideas!
ReplyDeleteSince you already flex group your gifted population, you might want to try to flex the entire group into a first grade classroom for reading/math.
ReplyDeleteIf I flex the whole gifted group do I put them with the gifted first graders?
ReplyDeleteYou would have to evaluate the needs of the Kindergarten students you have. I am thinking that they would be one year lower than the 1rst grade cluster students who are gifted. A better fit would be to have them working within a classroom that does not have the gifted students. They would still be receiving accelerated instruction, but not to the point of being frustrated.
