Week of March 8 Question 4

Keeping gifted students challenged is a vital part of the instructional process. What are the ways in which you keep the students in your classroom challenged?

Provide ownership to capable; provide compact curriculum, if they already know the content, let them move into an area that they don't know; provide choice;create a learning environment in which all students will be stretched to learn; provide opportunities for faster pacing of new material; incorporate students' passionate interests into their independent studies; and provide flexible grouping opportunities for the entire class.

  2. One thing I do is to avoid answering questions posed by students directly at all costs. Rather, by answering their questions with questions that lead them to the answer they were looking for they are compelled to think beyond their initial contemplation of the matter. It also models meta-cognition.
